Facelift
About the procedure
Aging process causes elasicity loss to the face skin and over the years, it loseits firmness. Soft tissues and the underlying facial skeleton atrophy whichcauses their reabsorption. As a result, the skin of the face becomes loose, wrinkles appear and the youthful look begins to vanish.
When lifting the middle and lower third of the face, the soft tissues in the area of the temples, cheekbones, cheeks, mouth, jaw contour and the upper part of the neck are lifted and repositioned, excess skin is removed. Thus, sagging, wrinkles and folds are reduced and the face is rejuvenated. The scars are hidden in the hairy part of the head and in the folds in front and behind the earlobes. This operation can be combined with another type of cosmetic surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the procedure performed?
Facelift is performed under local or general anesthesia. It lasts up to several hours. The patient can usually leave the clinic the same day or the next day.
The facelift procedure involves lifting and repositioning the soft tissues of the face. The surgeon makes small incisions on both sides – in front, under and behind the ears, which remain hidden in the hairy part of the head. Then the excess skin and fat are removed through them, after which the muscles and soft tissues are tightened. Finally, the skin is stretched and the incisions are closed.
There are several types of facelift techniques and the most suitable one will be selected depending on the results you are looking for and the condition of your skin. During your online consultation the surgeon will explain in detail the different options in order to choose the right one for you.
Before the procedure
Your surgeon will give you detailed information for the preoperative preparation a few weeks prior to your plastic surgery.
The most important advice for smokers is to stop smoking for at least 2 weeks (or 4 weeks and even more, if possible). Smoking prevents healing and increases the risk of complications. You should not smoke until the wounds heal well, at least two weeks after surgery.
You should stop taking aspirin or medicine containing aspirin, antiflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they all increase the risk of bleeding. Your surgeon will advise you how long prior to the operation you should stop taking these medicines.
High blood pressure also needs to be well controlled during surgery. So if your blood pressure is elevated, you should discuss it with your surgeon.
It is extremely important to discuss your expectations with your plastic surgeon. This will allow him to assess whether they are achievable with the selected procedure. In some cases, two or three sessions may be needed to achieve the desired effect, and in others – it may be necessary to combine procedures for a better result.
You will be accompanied by an employee of ours to the clinic and where you are staying before and after the operation.
Aftercare and recovery
Recovery from this procedure is very fast. You will have to avoid exercise for a few weeks, but you can return in front of the computer the next day. If your work involves more physical activities, you may need at least 2 weeks of rest. There will be a slight swelling and bruising in the incision areas, which is normal but will disappear within the next two weeks.
All sports activities need to be stopped for a period of 4-6 weeks.
You should avoid all procedures that can lead to reddening of the face, such as the use of sauna, steam bath and steam face masks.
Compression bandage should be worn the first week after the surgery.
You will need to return to the clinic the day after the operation to have your dressings changed or removed. Do not worry if there is more swelling in some areas than in others. Pain, if any, is minimum. Of course, you must make sure you will be following the postoperative recovery instructions that your surgeon will give you.
How long does the result last?
Facelift results are practically permanent. Whatever is achieved during the operation remains, regardless of aging. In other words, if the operation makes you look 10 years younger than your actual age, then you will always look 10 years younger than you really are.
There are various factors that can influence the longevity of facelift surgery results, some of which are:
How old was the patient at the time of the operation;
What is the condition of the skin at that time – darker skin in good health will have a better result than white, thinner skin, which is damaged by the sun;
The results in patients aged under 60 years usually last longer and most such patients will not need another facelift;
The surgeon’s skills and the used technique.
Tips for longer lasting results:
Don‘t smoke. Smoking ages you and dramatically speeds-up the aging process;
Drink less alcohol. It dehydrates your skin while we want it skin to stay firm and supple so that the results are longer lasting;
Try to maintain the same weight. Significant changes in your weight can change the shape and elasticity of your facial skin;
Drink lots of water. Water hydrates your skin;
Always use sunscreen when you are exposed to strong sunlight.
Take good care of your skin. Follow your surgeon‘s instructions – this is of critical importance after the procedure. Always use quality skin creams, serums and continue to do professional procedures such as peeling, fillers or Botox to maintain the look you want.
What are the risks?
All risks will be discussed with you during the consultation with your plastic surgeon.
Scarring for instance is possible, but only to a minimum degree. It will fade over time and with the right treatment. You can help minimize the risks by following the advice and instructions of your surgeon, both before and after your facelift procedure.
Will i have scars after the procedure?
Of all the scars you may have from plastic surgery, facial scars are the most favorable. They are not only very well hidden, but for most healthy people, a scar from a well-done facelift is not a problem at all.
Facelift is becoming a less invasive procedure that leaves fewer and fewer scars. Even the standard scars that remain are very small and very well hidden around the contours of the face: in front of the ear, under the earlobe and in the crease behind the ear. Most will be hidden from your hair from day one and makeup can be used as soon as the threads are gone.
