Dental Implants
Dental implants – what are they?
Teeth are part of the human body and lucky people are those who keep them throughout their lives. They can be lost for various reasons: dental trauma, caries, periodontal disease and others.
In these circumstances, the replacement of non-functional or the construction of new ones in place of missing teeth is extremely important because it can disrupt masticatory function, speech and aesthetics. This in turn can cause other problems for neighboring teeth. They can tilt in different directions, they can come together or even they can be lost. All this can lead to a various number of other common health problems.
If you have a missing tooth or teeth, there is no other procedure like dental implantation that is so close and recreates the look, feel and function of your natural teeth. Implants support natural bone and minimize the loss of extra bone tissue. They can help you to repair your smile and quality of life.
The dental implant or also the so-called teeth implant is placed next to or between the natural teeth to give stability and a natural looking appearance. This is a titanium element that is implanted in the tooth bone in order to replace the root of a missing tooth through surgery. They do not need additional maintenance, except for the normal cleaning with a brush and floss. Subsequently, the implant will support a crown, bridge or dentures. Generally speaking, the process is reduced to two stages. The placement of the dental implant is the first, followed by an upgrade with a dental structure.
We offer various solutions with dental implants.
Our implantologists can offer you implants for the replacement of a single tooth, several teeth, as well as a complete restoration of the upper and lower jaw.
Single dental implant
This procedure replaces single missing teeth. This is done by placing a single implant covered with a dental crown. This restoration is used when you have one or more missing teeth that are not next to each other. This prevents the displacement of adjacent teeth due to the lack of others.
Dental implants for 2 or a group of missing teeth.
Making an implant bridge is an excellent solution in cases of two or more missing or damaged consecutive teeth. A personal dental bridge is made according to your jaw, which is held in place by at least two dental implants.
Repair of whole jaws with dental implants.
In this case, implant-supported bridges are made for the entire upper or lower jaw. This is the ideal alternative to removable dentures. Implant bridges are secured with four to six implants, providing exceptional strength, beauty, stability and are indistinguishable from your own teeth.
What is the procedure for treatment with dental implants?
- Planning.
Before performing the surgery, diagnostics needs to be made in order to carry out precise planning when placing the implant. This is done using a 3D computer tomography. The obtained digital image makes it possible to assess the bone, the adjacent anatomical structures, the location of the implant in the jaw and its size (height and width). During this stage, an assessment of your health and dental condition is made. This is a very important point of the whole procedure.
Days: 1
Planning can take from 1 for milder cases to 2-3 days.
The first one include examination, computer tomography / if not available / and hygienic phase – cleaning of tartar.
- After planning we have a surgical phase.
Tooth extraction, if any, and implant placement. This is a mild operation under local anesthesia in which a titanium implant (titanium is a material that is taken by the body without allergic reactions and has been used as a bone substitute in the body for decades), is placed to serve as the root of a missing tooth and crown support. The procedure itself lasts about 40-50 minutes per implant and 10-20 minutes for each follower. This is an approximate time and each patient is considered as an individual case with its features as in anesthesia, and in the anatomical features, so that means the time may vary, it is not a constant. Before you return home and wait for the period of healing and integration of the implant into the bone, you receive a temporary tooth made of high-quality plastic or a temporary prosthesis in case the implant needs to be covered with mucosa. It is done in order for the bone to tightly envelop the impulse – a process called osseointegration. This process can last from 4-6 months.
The planning and the first surgical phase are done during the first visit to our clinic.
An action plan for the future is being prepared. Video consultations can be performed.
Selecting a date for the second visit.
Your second visit is after about 4-6 months (this is the time which is necessary to integrate the titanium implant). During this visit the implant is opened and a gingivaformer is placed. The procedure lasts 20-40 minutes. After about 7 days an imprint is taken for a permanent structure.
- The third visit is 4 days after taking the imprint, if you have chosen metal-ceramic crowns – a metal sample is made and after another 2-3 days there is an additional 4 visits for cementation. If you have chosen zirconium crowns, the visit is after 5-7 days and direct cementation is done, it takes about 20-40 minutes.
In reality, 2 and 3 are made during one visit in Bulgaria.
After completion of the osseointegration, the implant is opened and the permanent structure is prepared. It can be a crown, a bridge or another denture that replaces one or more missing teeth. Here the greatest attention is paid to the combination in the best way with the other teeth in order to achieve harmony between the color and shape of the restored teeth with the rest of them (except in cases where whole jaws are made).

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the procedure painful?
The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. There may be slight discomfort in the next few days. If you need painkillers you will be prescribed. It is desirable to make visits to the wound control clinic in the next few days.
How will I feel after the procedure?
After the procedure you should be in good general condition and be able to walk alone. However, you will be accompanied by our staff who will take you back to where you are staying.
How long will I have to wait until the second visit?
After the implants are placed, there is a 4-6 month recovery period. This is the time for gum adaptation. This is a natural process and cannot be avoided in any way (from any clinic). Due to the contraction of the gums, a small space appears between the gums and the bridges, which can lead to slight discomfort when cleaning them, but it is preferable to wear removable dentures. After 4-6 months, when the contraction is over and your gums are adapted, we can start planning the second visit.
How to take care of the implants? Do they need to be cleaned in a special way?
Implant care is very important if you want to have long-term results. No special cleaning is required. You can take care of them as well as your natural teeth. It is recommended to clean with a soft brush and splash after eating with clean water.
Do we need to use special mouthwash?
During the first 10 days after implantation, it is good to rinse with very dilute mouthwash or salt water (add a teaspoon of salt to warm water and soak for 1-2 minutes).
Warranty?
In compliance with all the above procedures and periods for waiting for osseointegration, postoperative measures and maintaining a hygienic phase /cleaning of tartar/ every 6 months we can give a guarantee of 5 to 10 years depending on the individual case. In the case of a patient from another country, we may be provided with a document proving the maintenance of the hygiene phase in order for the warranty to be valid.
How much does it cost?
