Face And Neck Liposuction

About the procedure

Tumescent liposuction is the safest and most effective method in removing fat accumulation from the jaw, cheeks and chin. Liposuction brings fewer risks, leaves fewer scars, avoids the risks of general anesthesia, has a faster recovery process, and usually gives a more natural appearance than a traditional facelift.

Liposuction of the face and neck in women

Women who have local face and neck deposits of subcutaneous fat tissue on and who have very wrinkled skin can combine liposuction with other non-surgical procedures to improve the result. In younger women with good skin elasticity, liposuction usually brings a huge improvement and is a more common and safer procedure than a traditional facelift.

Liposuction of the face and neck in men

Men usually prefer liposuction instead of facelift, because the men cannot accept the scars from the traditional facelift.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is an appropriate candidate?

Not all patients are appropriate candidates for face and neck liposuction. For some of them, a facelift or other similar procedure would be the better choice. For example, in women with large amounts of skin combined with small amounts of subcutaneous fat deposit, liposuction is not the optimal choice.

The definition “face and neck liposuction” is in some extend inaccurate. The main liposuction treated areas are the areas under the chin, around the jaws and a small area of the cheeks.

The area under the chin

This is the area with the jaw as upper limit and which extends to the front part of the neck. Regardless of age, the accumulation of fat cells in this area gives the patient the appearance of an obese, older and non-athletic individual. Liposuction is usually the common, safest and cheapest way to solve this cosmetic problem.

Subcutaneous fat

Cheeks with excess subcutaneous fat tissue give the patient the appearance of a “fatty” person. This type of fat accumulation is usually inherited and difficult to treat through exercise and diet. A very small cannula (less than 1.5 mm in diameter) is applied for its removal. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia and leaves no scars.

Fat around the jaws

There may be a small local fat accumulation around the jaws at the bottom of the cheeks, extending to the area above the jaw bone. This gives the patient an “older” look and is a cosmetic problem in both women and men. This type of fat accumulation can also be treated well through liposuction.

Liposuction does not remove wrinkles but it can be combined with other modern techniques to treat wrinkles. In our clinic you will receive suggestions about combining procedures that not only remove accumulated fat tissue, but also can treat wrinkles, blemishes and other skin problems. (Facetite, Accutite, Morpheus8, Cutera XEO, etc.)

Platism wrinkles

These are protruding, vertical folds of skin and are located on the front of the neck. They usually develop in older patients. They contain loose muscle fibers and fat cells. Liposuction can improve the appearance of platysma. In combination, the platysma muscle itself can be “tightened” during the procedure.

The small incisions, applied for the neck and face liposuction, do not require suturing. This also helps the good draining of residual blood and anesthetic solution, which reduces swelling and hematomas. Absorbent pads are applied on places with the help of a compression bandage (garment). Elastic compression is used after liposuction for 18 – 36 hours after surgery. Once the draining stops, the compression bandage is no longer needed. Then, depending on the condition, the patient may need to wear a special compression garment within 2-6 weeks.
