Buttock lift (Gluteoplasty)
About the procedure
Gluteoplasty is a procedure to correct the shape and size of the gluteal area (buttocks) and improve its appearance. Aesthetic problems in this area can be caused by or associated with the presence of excess skin and / or fat accumulated due to aging, heredity, drastic weight loss.
This procedure should not be confused with „brazilian butt lift“, which adds volume through the transfer of adipose tissue (lipofilling) or implants. Gluteoplasty refers only to the removal of skin or fat by surgical excision and liposuction.

Frequently Asked Questions
When to have a gluteoplasty?
There are several main cases in which this cosmetic procedure is appropriate:
- After bariatric intervention (surgical treatment of obesity) or significant weight loss through diet
- When having loose skin below the waistline after pregnancy or due to aging.
- When there is significant sagging and elasticity of the skin on the buttocks.
If you are healthy, positive and having realistic expectations, then you are a suitable candidate for this procedure.
How is the procedure performed?
The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. Its duration is within 2-3 hours. Your surgeon will make an incision in the upper gluteal area or in the lower buttocks where there is a natural crease in the buttock fold, depending on the case. The aim is to improve the contour by removing excess skin and lifting the underlying soft tissues. Liposuction can also be done to better sculpt and improve the overall appearance of the lower body. All incisions are sutured and closed in layers to keep the skin tight.
Before the procedure
Your surgeon will give you detailed information for the preoperative preparation a few weeks prior to your plastic surgery.
The most important advice for smokers is to stop smoking for at least 2 weeks (or 4 weeks and even more, if possible). Smoking prevents healing and increases the risk of complications. You should not smoke until the wounds heal well, at least two weeks after surgery.
You should stop taking aspirin or medicine containing aspirin, anti inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they all increase the risk of bleeding. Your surgeon will advise you how long prior to the operation you should stop taking these medicines.
High blood pressure also needs to be well controlled during surgery. So if your blood pressure is elevated, you should discuss it with your surgeon.
It is extremely important to discuss your expectations with your plastic surgeon. This will allow him to assess whether they are achievable with the selected procedure. In some cases, two or three sessions may be needed to achieve the desired effect, and in others – it may be necessary to combine procedures for a better result.
You will be accompanied by an employee of ours to the clinic and where you are staying before and after the operation.
Aftercare and recovery
It is very important to follow all your surgeon‘s recovery instructions in order to get better as soon as possible.
After the procedure, you will have drainage tubes for a few days. You will need to wear a special compression body garment for 6-8 weeks to support the area and keep your buttocks tight in their new shape. Swelling is a normal part of the healing process and will go away in a few weeks.
The recovery time after gluteoplasty is a bit longer because the gluteal muscles (the muscles of the buttocks) are one of the most important muscle groups in our body. They are involved in many physical activities such as: walking, running and even standing.
During the first 3-4 days you will need to sleep on your stomach or on one side. Many surgeons don`t allow sitting for the first 10-14 days except when going to the toilet and eating. After a while you could use a pillow that will be placed under your thigh muscles without touching your buttocks. Direct pressure should be avoided for at least 8 weeks. You will be able to see the final result in 3-6 months after the swelling subside.
Gluteoplasty is quite extensive and requires 2-3 weeks before you return to your normal activities.
How long do gluteoplasty results last?
The results of this procedure are for life, although aging, pregnancy and drastic changes in weight can affect the results of the operation. But if you lead a healthy lifestyle and avoid stretching your skin by gaining weight, then you will enjoy the youthful contours of your buttocks for a long time.
What are the risks of the operation?
All risks and how to avoid them will be discussed with your surgeon in advance, during the online consultation.
The most common unpleasant consequences are bleeding and bruising. There is always some degree of swelling and injury to the subcutaneous tissue after such an operation.
What postoperative scars there will be depends on what techniques are used. You will discuss this with your surgeon during the online consultation.
You can minimize the risks by following the instructions given to you by your surgeon.
