Ptosis (sagging) of the breasts can be caused by many different reasons, such as the processes of aging in the tissues, the loss of skin elasticity, a significant reduction in weight, pregnancy, breastfeeding. This drooping can be corrected surgically. The breast lift procedure is associated with the removal of excess skin, moving the nipple and areola to a higher position and forming a tighter and more attractive bust. In specific cases, the intervention can be combined with breast augmentation, in which the breasts are lifted and implants are placed at the same time. In other cases, breast lift can be combined with volume reduction (reduction mammoplasty).

How the procedure is performed

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The position of the incisions depends on the degree of sagging. If there is a minimal sagging of the breasts and / or in cases of simultaneous lifting with breast augmentation with implants, the incisions are placed in a circle around the areolas. If the sagging is significant, the incisions are made around the nipple and they extend vertically through the lower half of the breast and / or in the folds under the mammary glands (an „anchor“ incision). During the procedure, the nipple and areola are raised in a preoperatively determined position and, if necessary, the diameter of the areolas is reduced; excess skin is removed and glandular tissue is shaped to give a firmer and more shaped bust. The surgical intervention ends with an aesthetic skin suture and removal of the aspiration drainages.
