About the procedure
„Brazilian lifting“ of the buttocks is a procedure which aims to contour and shape the buttocks.
There are two approaches to achieve this goal – using own adipose tissue acquired through liposuction technique or using implants.
How is the procedure performed?
Lifting the buttocks by transferring own adipose tissue (lipofilling)
Adipose tissue is extracted through liposuction from areas with excess fat – abdomen, back and / or thighs. The obtained fat is processed and purified, after which it is transferred to the buttocks area. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia and takes 2-3 hours.
Some of the transferred adipose tissue will be absorbed in the next few months, which is why the first procedure aims to „overcorect“. You can expect to see the final result on the 6th to the 7th month. Due to the mentioned resorption processes, a second procedure might be needed in order to achieve an optimal result.
Lifting by implants
Implants are an option for achieving a well-shaped and raised buttock. The procedure is especially suitable for patients with minimal deposits of subcutaneous fat on the body: the insufficient supply of subcutaneous fat causes the inability to perform lipofilling (lifting the buttocks through own adipose tissue). This method is not suitable for the treatment of sagging buttocks which is a consequence of significant weight loss.
In this procedure, a silicone implant is placed through an incision which is positioned and remains hidden in the upper part of the fold between the two halves of the buttocks. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia and lasts 1.5-2 hours.

Before the procedure
Your surgeon will give you detailed information for the preoperative preparation a few weeks prior to your plastic surgery.
The most important advice for smokers is to stop smoking for at least 2 weeks (or 4 weeks and even more, if possible). Smoking prevents healing and increases the risk of complications. You should not smoke until the wounds heal well, at least two weeks after surgery.
You should stop taking aspirin or medicine containing aspirin, anti inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they all increase the risk of bleeding. Your surgeon will advise you how long prior to the operation you should stop taking these medicines.
High blood pressure also needs to be well controlled during surgery. So if your blood pressure is elevated, you should discuss it with your surgeon.
It is extremely important to discuss your expectations with your plastic surgeon. This will allow him to assess whether they are achievable with the selected procedure. In some cases, two or three sessions may be needed to achieve the desired effect, and in others – it may be necessary to combine procedures for a better result.

Aftercare and recovery
Usually the pain after this surgery is minimal and can be easily controlled with appropriate medication.
However, recovery after this operation requires some specific measures. Sitting and lying on the buttocks will be prohibited for about 2 weeks. During this time you will only need to sleep lying on your side or on your stomach. All other activities will need to be done standing or lying on your stomach or side.
After this two-week period, with the doctor’s permission, you will begin sitting in a modified position, using a special donut-type seat or placing a cushion under the buttocks to relieve pressure on the buttocks.
Usually 8 weeks after surgery, normal sitting is allowed.
You will receive individualized instructions from your surgeon, but generally resumption of light activities of daily living is allowed one week after surgery and return to work 10 -14 days after surgery.
Reaching the final result of this procedure is achieved about 6 months after it, after all the recovery processes have passed. It is very important to maintain a stable weight afterwards, as large fluctuations in weight will affect the transferred adipose tissue and spoil the achieved result.
How long do BBL results last?
Under normal conditions, the results will be long lasting.
After a fat grafting procedure, which involves the process of partial resorption, the stored adipose tissue will remain for life.
As for the implant procedure, implants do not need to be removed or replaced unless there are serious complications.
Although the BBL procedure improves the contour and shape of your buttocks, you will need to make some changes in your life. A healthy lifestyle and regular exercise will contribute to your good appearance for years to come.
What are the risks of the operation?
As with any operation, there are some risks. The most common side effects are bleeding and bruising. There is always some degree of swelling after such an operation.
In the fat transfer technique, there may be resorption of up to 40%, which makes the procedure more difficult to predict and may require additional treatment if the desired results are not achieved.
When using implants, the main risk is their „displacement“, giving an asymmetrical appearance. If this happens, you may need a second operation.
In order to minimize the risks of the operation, you must strictly follow all the instructions given to you by the surgeon, both before and after the operation.
