Neck lift
About the procedure
In many people, the first signs of aging appear in the lower jawline and neck areas. The skin starts to lose its elasticity and sags, wrinkles and neck lines form. Looser skin may also cause a „double chin”. All these problems could be solved with a neck lifting procedure. Depending on the skin condition in this area, the treatment can range from minimally invasive radiofrequency intervention with FaceTite to conventional technique with an incision in the area under and behind the ears and / or under the chin.
A neck lift is done to:
- Remove excess fat in the chin, jaw and neck areas
- Remove loose skin and accumulated fat deposits, which create the impression of a sagging neck
- Correct muscle laxity
- Tighten sagging skin

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the conventional procedure performed?
The procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia. The surgery itself can take 1 up to 4 hours depending on its volume. Small discrete incisions are made under the chin and / or under and behind the ears. Their placement and location depend on the techniques that will be used.
The surgeon lifts and removes the excess skin. Then reposition the rest around the neck to give a smoother look. It may be necessary to tighten and sculpt the main muscle of the neck, called platysma. Once the muscle is tightened, the skin is pulled and the incisions are sutured.
Before the procedure
Your surgeon will give you detailed information for the preoperative preparation a few weeks prior to your plastic surgery.
The most important advice for smokers is to stop smoking for at least 2 weeks (or 4 weeks and even more, if possible). Smoking prevents healing and increases the risk of complications. You should not smoke until the wounds heal well, at least two weeks after surgery.
You should stop taking aspirin or medicine containing aspirin, anti inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements as they all increase the risk of bleeding. Your surgeon will advise you how long prior to the operation you should stop taking these medicines.
High blood pressure also needs to be well controlled during surgery. So if your blood pressure is elevated, you should discuss it with your surgeon.
It is extremely important to discuss your expectations with your plastic surgeon. This will allow him to assess whether they are achievable with the selected procedure. In some cases, two or three sessions may be needed to achieve the desired effect, and in others – it may be necessary to combine procedures for a better result.
You will be accompanied by an employee of ours to the clinic and where you are staying before and after the operation.
Aftercare and recovery
Bruising and swelling are normal after a conventional neck lift procedure. They go away within the next couple of weeks.
You will have to take about 2 weeks off from work and even more, if you are doing something that requires you to be more active. After starting work, you should not overload yourself. You should return to your normal daily activities within 4 weeks.
Heavy physical activity and workouts have to be avoided for 6 weeks, after which you can start sports such as running, swimming and cycling.
You should avoid wearing tight clothing around the neck and head to avoid contact with the surgical site.
Bruising and swelling have to be no longer present in order to see the end results. Although they go away through the first few weeks, it can take up to 6 months to see the final results. If you are in good health, you do not smoke or drink, you will recover faster.
What are the risks?
All risks will be discussed with you during the consultation with your plastic surgeon.
Scarring, for instance, is possible but only of a minimum degree and with great chances of fading over time and with the right treatment. Bleeding, bruising and swelling, as well as allergic reactions are some of the potential complications of all surgeries. You can help minimize the risks by following the advice and instructions of your surgeon, both before and after your neck lift procedure.
